Achievements

Congratulations to Iving Rootman on the release of the 4th edition of HEALTH PROMOTION IN CANADA by Canadian Scholars’ Press on November 30, 2017. According to Dr. Evelyne de Leeuw, Editor-in-Chief of Health Promotion International, “I thought that the third edition of Health Promotion in Canada reached the pinnacle of insight and scholarly as well as practical support for the field—in Canada and globally. But this fourth edition weaves an even richer, more elegant, and profound tapestry. With half the book chapters new and the other half even better than before, Canadians continue to lead the way.”

A Colleague Warmly Remembered

It is with sadness that we remember our colleague, Dr. Sumit ‘Me2’ Majumdar, University of Alberta, who passed away on January 19, 2018.  Me2 was a well-respected and acclaimed clinician-scientist in the Division of General Internal Medicine within the Department of Medicine. He graduated from the University of Alberta School of Medicine in 1992 and was a Professor in the Department of Medicine, held a Patient Health Management Chair. His interdisciplinary research involved complex medical conditions such as osteoporosis, diabetes, hypertension, heart and lung diseases and obesity. He held funding from Alberta Innovates, CIHR and many other peer-reviewed organizations

Sumit was inducted into the Academy in 2017.  We were honoured to have Sumit and his wife, Dr. Anisa Khaliq,  join us in Ottawa in September and participate in the Induction Ceremony.

Our deepest sympathies are extended to his wife, Dr. Anisa Khaliq, children and extended family.
